JUNE KEY POINTS


TOTAL HOURLY RATES OF PAY EXCLUDING BONUSES

QUARTERLY CHANGE (MAR QTR 2010 TO JUN QTR 2010)

• The index for all employee jobs in Australia increased by 0.8%, in trend terms.
• The increases in indexes (in original terms) at the industry level ranged from 0.2% for Transport, postal and warehousing and Other services to 1.4% for Mining.

ANNUAL CHANGE (JUN QTR 2009 TO JUN QTR 2010)

• The increase in the trend index through the year to June quarter 2010 for all employee jobs in Australia was 3.0%.
• Increases in the original indexes through the year to June quarter 2010 at the industry level ranged from 1.7% for Wholesale trade to 4.7% for Electricity, gas, water and waste services.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

Some of the financial year percentage changes for 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 in publication tables 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 are different to those previously published. A different rounding methodology than the one conventionally used (see Explanatory Notes paragraph 33) was adopted in the calculation of percentage changes from the previous financial years, in the September quarter 2009, December quarter 2009 and March quarter 2010 releases of this publication. This has led to a difference of +/- 0.1 of a percentage point in some cases. The changes are shown in the data cube Table A2: Change From Previous Financial Year. Actual index numbers and other percentage change calculations are not affected.


CHANGES IN FORTHCOMING ISSUES

From the September quarter 2010 release of this publication on 17 November 2010, the graph on the front page, WPI-Annual change: Original (for selected industries) will be moved to appear with the Commentary (pages 4-5). This will allow the inclusion of all industries as well as the introduction of quarterly movements to the graph. A new graph, WPI-Annual change: Original, States and Territories, Sector will be included on the front page.


NEW INDEX REFERENCE BASE

From the September quarter 2009, all index numbers have been calculated on a new reference base of 2008-09. The numbers in each index series have been reset to equal 100.0 for the financial year 2008-09. Period-to-period percentage changes may differ slightly to those previously published due to re-referencing and rounding. These differences do not constitute a revision. See Appendix 2 for more detail.
